What is a General Contractor?

A general contractor is a licensed construction professional who manages building projects from start to finish. This includes coordinating subcontractors, permits, timelines, and budgets to ensure everything gets built safely and on plan.

About the Course

Meet Nick Tang, general contractor and owner of Koʻolau Builders on Oʻahu. What started as a handyman business and a love for flipping homes grew into a licensed contracting company that manages everything from foundations and framing to full-scale renovations. As a general contractor, Nick oversees the entire build process. This profession is a blend of hands-on building, strategic problem solving, and business leadership, making it one of the most dynamic careers in Hawaiʻi's construction industry.
